MAKING THE GRADE

A few interesting articles on education featured on CBC News from Nova Scotia caught my attention.

DEADLINES ARE A REAL WORLD LESSON
The issues of student expectations, deadlines, no zeros have certainly been raised in this province. In fact they come up all the time. The NLFSC always has a discussion about them at our general meetings.

Are academic standards in decline? Do we provide too many second chances? Are kids being set up for a world of disappointment because they no longer know how to cope with failure or criticism?

Where is the line between teaching children in school and the a parents responsibility to teach their children respect, hard work, dedication, integrity and inspire them to achieve? What is the role of our education system to assist those who do not have parents who provide these lessons?

These and may other questions were the focus of a CBC Mainstreet series called Making the Grade
