Are you prepared to allow arrogance, greed and false assurances that Homo Sapiens can tame nature to place our society on the cusp of a post-antibiotic world!

Imagine living in a world where we no longer have a pill, shot or effective treatment for scratches, cuts, s.t.d's, pneumonia and other medical conditions?

The overuse and misuse of antibiotics used in meat, poultry and milk production is a major threat to public health. Resistant bacteria in pigs, cows, chicken and increasingly humans is becoming more and more common as governments fail to adequately address the issue in the wake of factory
farm industry greed to meet consumers demands as cheaply as possible.

Despite calls from scientists, immunologists, doctors and those concerned in the public, our government has not moved faster to force agricultural industries to rethink how we raise animals for human consumption.

A few weeks ago I posted "Food Insecurity" in the hopes of generating awareness that we are heading back into a world where a scratch, or a simple infection, could spell death because of antibiotic resistance.

An article on today entitled "Medicated meat: Canada fails to prevent overuse of antibiotics" explores the issue in great detail. It provides some great perspective on a global threat that requires immediate action to curb the     unnecessary use of antibiotics in the agricultural sector before these life saving medicines become ineffective.
