You hear stories like the teenage girl who unexpectedly gives birth claiming not to have known she was pregnant or the British Columbia women who thought she had an upset stomach on a flight to Tokyo this Spring and than something just dropped out of her.
I find it hard to believe that someone could be at the delivery stage of pregnancy and not realize they were with child but it happens a lot more than we might think. The experts say if you are a young woman of normal weight you can be pregnant and not know it until just before you give birth, but it's more likely to happen if you are overweight.
Apparently there is something called pseudo-pregnancy where someone might have all the clinical symptoms of pregnancy - weight gain, lactation, morning sickness - without ever being pregnant.
I read a story yesterday about a 92-year-old Chilean woman who was taken to the hospital after falling. An X-ray of her hips revealed a 4.4-pound fetus filling her abdominal cavity! The calcified seven month old fetus had gone unnoticed been for five decades.
Last year doctors in India removed the Skelton of a baby from inside a women forty years after the unborn baby died.
Than there was the story this Spring of from Hong Kong where doctors found a pair of fetuses inside the body of a newborn girl. .The unusual condition, known as "fetus-in-fetu," is estimated to happen once in every half-million births but has been reported fewer than 200 times worldwide.
A quick Google search produced more examples of bizarre pregnancies, unexpected deliveries and discoveries of the remains of calcified fetuses.
Here are a couple of links to some bizarre and horrifying things discovered in a human body.
It is an amazing world!
