Ever feel like we are living in age where the sci fi of our youth keeps becoming the scientific reality of the day. Discoveries, inventions and happenings that were were found on the pages of fantasy novels and the ramblings of futurists are becoming reality.
For example ,chemists have teamed up with engineers to develop 3-D printers that will practically be able build anything its user desire, all on the molecular, and eventually atomic levels! It just boggles the mind.
What about the Urbee 2,
the futuristic vehicle is created using a spray of molten polymer and
weighs in at just under 1,200 pounds once the metal engine is added in.
The creators hope to drive the prototype from San Francisco to New York
on a single tank of gas.
There a lots of examples of technology that we take for granted today that did not exist, except in the minds of fictional fantasy, in my youth. My boys ask a question and the reply from one of the other guys is Google. What did we do before the internet search engine. In my youth there was an internet search engine - in Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Rember IVF in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and the flip phone and tablets in Star Trek? They all started as a figment of a science fiction fantasy that became a real technology.
I can only imagine the technological advances that my children will witness in their extended life spans.
So what next? An internet implant in the brain,a replicator that produce a cup of Earl Grey, the possibilities, it seems,
In the meantime, I am shoveling snow today becuse I am afraid of a snow-blower!
