A SPECIAL PLACE THAT IS THE HEART OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Another successful community pancake breakfast at the Virginia Park Elementary "neighborhood" school.

The community poured in to Middleton Street today. Business people, politicians, school board officials, retired teachers, neighbors, parents, grand parents and volunteers.

For the first time, I was on the other side of things enjoying the conversation and the pancakes. My hat is off to Jean and her army of dedicated volunteers for the yeomen effort.

We began pancake diplomacy nine years ago as a way to show off our thriving neighborhood school when the future was a lot less certain.  The community rallied together to send a message to the powers that be that the rationale for closing the school was not solid.

A decade long lobby continues. We are expecting shovels in the ground for our new school as soon as the snow melts!

For the naysayers, and I know it has been a long wait, here are the preliminary plans.
