A SIGN OF VOTER INTENTIONS

A sure sign of a spring election, signs are popping up in the snow banks, intersections and open spaces in Virgina Waters.

At this point it looks like the candidates are vying for the elusive snow people vote who seem to be the most engaged during the first week of the campaign. Frosty and his family are showing their support by displaying signs on the frozen snow banks they call home which border all of the city’s streets.

I hope that each campaign is ensuring that the snow vote is taking advantage of the special ballot to ensure that their votes are committed to a ballot before the spring thaw.  It has been my experience that the snow vote is fickle. An army of  signs illustrating a strong presence that often just melts away come election day.

Signs do not vote. Signs in public spaces do not vote. Signs on people's lawns and in windows are a much stronger gauge of what voter’s intentions actually are.

I predict that the Conservative support  in Virginia Waters will go the way of the winter snow.

Peter I respect your opinion but Danny Breen has the charisma, elected experience and personal political record to run on. Marshall has mitigated many of the attack positions for liberals and Bennett cannot attack on muskrat. Marshall has positioned him well for victory.

Breen is Danny Williams candidate doing Danny Williams biding. If he had an ounce of respect for himself, he would have refused to run. Of course that last Breen to stand-up to these guys got the flick.

Just getting to these, sorry.

Not arguing with you about Danny - he has all of the things you mention. I think Marshall has been able to offer a different face but he is a temporary fix to a problem that is much larger. If the tories were not in such a mess - and the public's attitude was not so set, I think the outcome might be closer. Breen has to defend the entire tory record and people are not in a forgiving moood. All this mitigation is seen as penance and contrived out of desperation. The public trust is broken

I like Marshall. I think he has returned some decorum, intellect, decency and respect to the premiers chair that has been missing for a very long time (since wells IMO). However, I will never be able to support the PC's as long as Williams is involved.

Breen might be all that you people say but the Conservatives are in trouble on the national and provincial stage. They take us for granted and treat democracy with disdain. Marshall is a nice guy but he never had the courage to challenge Bill 29, Churchill Falls, not opening the House of Assembly or anything else the PCs rammed down our throats. If the byelection was just about local issues, Breen would run away with it, but it is not. Breen is signing on to defend the undefendable. He will not win.

I liked David Cochrane's line about Marshall "The Trooper Premier, here for good time not a long time"

For 11 years Tom Marshall has been one the most credible and honest politicians in the province. His six months at the helm will reflect a contrite attempt to redefine public opinion but the arrogance has done it's damage. Only the most partisan believes the ethics and approach has changed, these are the same people that defended the arrogance before. The people will set the reset button not the government.

Danny Breen is the perfect fit for virginia waters Shelia Oleary. Was ... a perfect fit for his replacement on council... but she wants to replace lorraine micheal...and anoint her position by a win in virginia waters.. success in her case is measured in heights attained.... she wants to be a leader....her passion is void of substance on the virtue nobody is following her except thomas mulcair... another sitting Duck...
BENNETT has momentum from her leadership bid which she lost the ball to Dwight...but the 400 votes she needs for victory will be with Oleary. .Odeary...Omerry oh. Danny....

Good night Irene
