A LONG WAY FROM PLUMTREE ,SAM

Crater sized potholes, snowbanks, more flurries, windchill warnings,  amongst pleas from the SPCA to keep pets in-doors and public announcements from  Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro to conserve energy.

It is cold, damn cold.

Cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey and than some. The mercury outside in my backyard says it is currently -14. Environment Canada says the temperature is going to plummet to -18 tonight. For those of you that get chilled by the wind chill, they say it will reach minus 31!

I have spent Winter's in Ottawa and in Labrador West. I skated to work along the Rideau Canal but I have never been this cold!

The walk into the office this morning was an adventure! I braved the wind chill and climbed over snowbanks to reach the warm comfort of the cabin and my notebook. Glenn was there first, so the stove was roaring! He looked at me and I could hear the words "Please close that door. It's fine in here, but I greatly fear you'll let in the cold"

The force of the heat nearly drove me back outside....nearly!

I felt like Sam McGee in the furnace of the Alice May.

It is hard to believe that we are just 18 days away from the beginning of Spring!
