STEVE KENT IS A SHINING LIGHT AROUND A DIM CABINET TABLE

Steve Kent has always been an eager beaver. In 1999, he was named one of Maclean's Magazine's Top 100 Canadians to Watch in the Next Century.

What surprised me about his elevation to the provincial cabinet yesterday was that it took so long.

Kent was first elected to the House of Assembly for the district of Mount Pearl in 2007, earning an astonishing 85% of the popular vote.

Since his election he has served as parliamentary secretary in two departments Forestry and Agrifoods Agency the Office of Public Engagement.

Prior to being elected to the provincial legislature he served as Mayor and deputy Mayor of St. John’s twin city,  Mount Pearl.  It should be pointed out that he was first elected to the council at the tender age of 19!

Kent has been Chief Executive Officer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland, Executive Director at United Way, Newfoundland and Labrador and was Station Manager/ Manager of Corporate Development at OZFM.
His record of leadership and community service reflects his determination and his egalitarian nature.
While building a career and performing in the role of a senior elected official he completed a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and earned a Master’s Degree in Management.

Yesterday, after serving seven years in the House of Assembly, the 35-year old he was given two ministerial positions. He was appointed as Minister of Municipal Affairs and he replaced Tom Hedderson as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Over all, I thought yesterdays shuffle was a lost opportunity to put a fresh face on a party/government in decline. Too many non-performers remain at the expense of the talent languishing in the back benches.

Steve Kent’s promotion was overdue and well deserved. I expect, if he does not become too hyper partisan and arrogant, like many of his cabinet colleagues, he will be Premier some day.

Steve Kent is a piece of shit. If he's a shining light for the PC Party, then they are well and truly fucked. And rightfully so.
