Virginia Park Elementary School held it's 8th Annual Community Breakfast this morning.

It was great to see so many former staff, students and parents who have helped this community not only save its neighborhood school, but effectively convince government to build a brand new one!

We started the pancake breakfast as a show of solidarity and demonstrate the great sense of community that existed at Virginia Park Elementary in the face of an immanent closure.

The crowd was so large this year that we actually ran out out of pancakes! Great job Jean and all of the volunteers!

I am so proud of the work that our teachers, parents, support staff, community partners, administrators who have done to raise funds for literacy, musical instruments, computer infrastructure, field trips and sports activities.

Just a few weeks ago, we learned that VPE had been selected for a Indigo Love of Reading Grant. Thanks to the hard work, and determination of our teachers who have submitted grant proposals for six years in a row, over the next three years the school will receive $48,000 to put toward purchasing new books to enrich the literacy opportunities of our students

Schools are more than just brick and mortar (or in our case 40 year old aluminum portables).

Our school is the heart of a thriving community.

New books for a new library in a new school.

This an exciting time for Virginia Park Elementary!
