CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: THE BATTLE FOR THE PEARL

The local media are ramping up coverage of municipal coverage in advance of this Fall’s Municipal Elections.

The big focus is on the race here in the Capital City and in neighboring Mount Pearl where the Mayor’s races are expected to be hotly contested.

Former Mount Pearl Mayor, MHA & PC. Cabinet Minister Dave Denine is rumored to be raising money and putting together a team in a bid for the chains of office.

Incumbent Mayor, popular VOCM Open Line Host, Mayor Randy Simms is running for re-election. Word is that Simms has been too critical of the Progressive Conservatives, so the gang wants him gone.

Randy has committed the sin of daring to question the Progressive Conservative (aka Government) propaganda machine  by asking sensible, timely and critical questions. It appears their is a price for not playing the role of a cheer leader!

Mount Pearl’s three MHA’s are all Progressive Conservatives. Mount Pearl North is represented by former Mayor Steve Kent, Mount Pearl South MHA is represented by former city councilor Paul Lane & Topsail district is represented by tory Paul Davis.

It should make for an  interesting bit of political theater in St. John’s biggest suburb!
