A buddy of my is a hoarder. He could put an arse in a cat! Sure all of the clutter drives his wife nuts but as he says you never know when you are going to need the most obscure part, tool or piece of scrap.

I thought of Ray this morning when while listening to the news while typing up the agenda for tonight's Knights of Columbus meeting. CBC broadcast a story about a mother assisting her sick daughter with a transplant.

I have heard of heart, kidneys, liver, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine, thymus, bone, tendon (cornea, skin, heart valves, and vein transplants. Science is wonderful, if not controversial. However a fecal transplant?

The mother "donated" one of her stools for the procedure. The hospital lab pumped the foreign fecal matter right into the daughter's colon.

Kaitlin Hunter survived a horrendous car accident but found herself battling a life threatening bacterial infection in her colon. The 5 foot 7 inch Hunter lost 40 pounds plummeted to 85 pounds. Nine rounds of antibiotic treatments failed.

The infection-causing bacteria, C. diff grows rampant, releasing a toxin and inflaming the colon. C. diff infections kill about 14,000 Americans every year.

A fecal transplant recolonize the colon with new bacteria from a healthy donor.

Lard jumpin die ins! What is next?

This procedure has been around for some time, although only a few doctors do it. It is amazing how this can save/restore quality of life within 24 hours
