$8 BILLION PORN INDUSTRY GOES FLACID

Another scandal is rocking the porn industry!

The industry is trying to maintain a stiff upper-lip but two major porn studios have suspended production after discovering that a male performer was secretly harboring a syphilis infection

The "actor" forged his STD tests and may have  spread his disease to unwitting partners.

Syphilis is curable but it can be fatal if  untreated

The number of people impacted  is unknown.

A 2012 Time article quoted an estimate by the Adult Video Network done several years ago for the U.S. online adult entertainment industry was valued at $2.8 billion. Considering that that number does not include tvideo sales and rentals, internet, cable, pay-per-view, in-room, mobile, phone sex, exotic dance clubs, novelties, and magazines the true value could be as high as $8 billion.

Put in perspective the industry rivals the he amount of digital merchandise iTunes is on pace to sell in 2012.

In Canada,  there is no oversight and the porn industry is almost entirely self-regulating. Under the Criminal Code, creating and distributing "obscene" publications or possessing them for distribution can land you in prison for up to two years.

But what is obscenity?

Penny Lawson, a sex addiction therapist at the Bellwood Centre in Scarborough, said studies in the U.S. suggest 6% to 8% who view porn have an addiction, and those numbers are likely to increase based on more porn being available.

Just blows the mind!
