One of my indulgences when taking a trip home is to take a run to the Tea Rose which is located located 1 km South of the Boat Harbour Access Road on the Main Burin Peninsula Highway.

The Tea House is a hidden jewel. The eatery, a demonstration community garden  and the Livyers Lot Museum are operated by the Placentia West Heritage Committee, a volunteer organization.

The menu, the food and the dinning experience is so pleasurable. The prices and the upbeat conversations with the staff make the Tea Rose a destination for me.

Everything is made and prepared by the staff, from the fish cakes to the cheese cake. The menu is jammed back with local delicacies and traditional fare. Pea Soup, cold plates, jigs turner, cod, home made beans, the best fish cakes in the world at incredibly low prices.

Seriously, $12 for toutons, huge fish cakes, toasted home made bread, jam, coffee and tea for two.

In fact, I feel that the prices are so low that doubling my bill as a tip, seems appropriate.

Next time you are heading down the boot, put the Tea Rose on your itinerary. You will not be disappointed!
