It sounds like something out of a James Bond movie!
Using nano-technology to heal your car's paint job or keep your vehicle clean sounds very futuristic!
Apparently not!
Not only has the technology been available, some car companies have adapted it! The problem with self-healing nano-capsules coatings has been that the capsules lost their self-healing and water-resistant properties over time.
A research team at Eindhoven University of Technology
in the Netherland may have developed a surface coating
that not only repairs itself of small scratches but is also
self-cleaning. Wired reports that the team developed nano-capsule surfaces with special “stalks” that are
mixed throughout the coating, and at their ends contain the functional
chemical groups needed for self-repair.
Apparently, Nissan has offered a self-healing Scratch Guard Coat on its cars for several years.
I am looking forward to not having to wash my car and setting a switch to adjust the color as easily as selecting a radio station!
