Federal and Provincial government employees thrown out of work by the latest round of fiscal belt-tightening take heed...Walmart is hiring!

The American based retail giant is going to hire 4,000 new employees this year. By the end of 2013, the company expects to spend some $750 million to open, relocate or remodel 73 stores. Some of these stores are former Zellars locations.

They pay "above the minimum wage"

The new stores come as Walmart prepares for the arrival of competition in the retail market

The expansion comes as competition in the Canadian retail market heats up with the entry of fellow discount retailer giant Target next year.

Target plans to open 125 to 135 stores in Canada!

I wonder if the  new E.I. rules will force former analysts, health inspectors, fisher scientists and the like into new roles as Walmart greeters.
