The editor of the Southern Gazette, George Macvicar, is one of the province's most senior, and enduring editor/journalists.
He has been one of my favorite writers for a generation, going back, I believe, to the Robinson-Blackmore days!
Macvicar and his colleague at the Clarenville Packett, Barbara Dean-Simmons are responsible for some of the most provocative, insightful and challenging editorial commentary in this province.
Macvicar's editorial in the June 19th edition of the Southern Gazette, entitled "No Tinkering This Time" supports the case for the proposed changes to the province's federal electoral boundaries. The traditional boundaries have followed patterns based on obsolete transportation links that died when roads replaced coastal boats in many bays and regions of the province.
The North South division of boundaries makes sense, but both provincially and federally, those that ahve the final say have decided to stay with the status quo.
Macvicar makes a passionate and logical argument for change!
