SCHOOLS ALMOST OUT

The kids are some hyper. One more sleep and school is out!

Throw in the long evenings and it is utter chaos at the Whittle household. No one is listening, No one is sleeping! No one wants to come in off the street and abandon the hockey games. Fun. Fun. Fun.

The kids finish tomorrow, which is report card day!

This past school year has been great. The boys are in Grade 7, 4 and 3, at three different schools. Just to complicate matters further, my wife taught in Beachy Cove. That made for a hell of a busy and logistically challenged year of pick-ups and drop-offs.

I am honestly impressed with the great work, participation, education and extra-curricular activities offered by Virginia Park Elementary, St. Paul's Junior High and Mary Queen of Peace. The kids had a great year!

Fortunately for us, friends and family helped pick-up the burden on days when neither of us had any flexibility. I also am very fortunate to have a very flexible work environment which permits me the flexibility needed to pick-up the kids.

Than there was the Shallaway, Basketball, Hockey, Legends Swimming and other after school programs. It felt like we spent more time in the car than anything else this year.

I am looking forward to the break that the summer brings. With the exception of a few evening soccer games and a summer camp to administer, it is looking to be a relaxing few months.

The schedules, routines and organizational tricks that got us through ten months are about to become obsolete. Kris is off for the Summer, so the summer schedules will fall on her shoulders. Although I feel Summer offers great potential to teach the boys  how much fun it is to sort laundry, use the dishwasher, mow the loan, mop, make their beds and paint. We all have responsibilities!

What are you up to for the summer?
