Professional hockey fans in Newfoundland and Labrador now have another local to cheer for in the National Hockey League.

St. John's native James Melindy was invited to the NHL Draft Combine and ranked 63rd amongst North American skaters in Central Scouting’s final rankings prior to the 2012 NHL Draft. His hard work and talent paid off this weekend when he was offered a spot with the Phoenix Coyotes.

The six foot-two defenseman is known to mix it up, is a great passer and is known as a two-way defender who makes for a solid option offensively.

The boys know him from Xtreme Hockey.

They are so excited!
I guess this means the boys will be looking for Coyote Jerseys for the summer street hockey games!
