HOT WHEELS AND DRUNKEN GRAND PARENTS
My kids love spending time with nanny and poppy!
Grandparents are fun! The rules are a little slacker, they cater more and have a tendency to spoil. Of course, they also get to hand them back to their parents who have to restore order and routine.
When we first starting having children, Kristine found it hard to adapt to the freedom the boys enjoyed in St. Bernard's. We would arrive for a visit, the boys would take off and explore. Up behind the hill, out the bank, down the beach, in the road....they roamed all over the place. At home they had the full range of the backyard and our cul-de-sac.
Occasionally, when schedules and holidays permit, one or two of the boys will go out home with my parents. They love going to the cabin with pop, out in the boat and all the freedom. They could not be in better, more loving hands.
I can not say that for the grandparents of 7-year-old girl from Florida who caught towing the girl in her plastic Hot Wheels car, which was tied to the SUV with a pair of dog leads!
Police say the kicker was that the grandparents had been drinking all day. Apparently, they were just having fun all day tossing down a few beverages and entertaining the child. While they remembered to bring along some refreshments, they forgot to provide their grand daughter with a helmet or any other protective equipment.
When police spotted them, nanny was in the back of the SUV cheering on the little girl while poppy drove. He reeked of booze and had no drivers license - it had been revoked for guess what - DUI.
The pair are facing child cruelty charges for placing the girl in a situation that could have resulted "in great bodily harm, permanent disfigurement, or even death."
It will be a while before this couple get to drive a vehicle or babysit again!
