Tickets for the second independent TED event organized in St. John’s this year go on sale today!

TEDxStJohn’s, which will focus on overcoming diversity is scheduled for May 25 at the Majestic Theatre.

According to the TedxStJohns web site eight speakers have been confirmed so far, including Nova Scotia civil rights activist Burnley “Rocky” Jones. I hope that Danny Williams might consider signing on to discuss overcoming diversity and creating opportunities in the province.

Among the great speakers at the TedxFortTownsend held at the Geo Centre in March were Mary Gorden of Roots of Empathy, Zita Cobb, founder of the Shorefast Foundation and inspirational speaker, Dr. TA Loeffler.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

The 'x' in 'TEDx' stands for "independently organized events."
