TUESDAY SCOFF

It is going to be a long day! I am already craving the home made fish cakes and home made beans that are waiting for me after work.

No, mom is not in. A friend gave me some salt fish fillets yesterday.

I promptly but them to soak last night. I boiled the potatoes and mashed them with some fried onions this morning.  It isn't an exact science but I finally found a groove for my family and it is a tried and true favorite.

The beans soaked overnight.  After a quick boil, they were transferred  into the bean crock following the old, tried and proven, Cream of the West Boston Bean Recipe.   My preference is the oven, but the slow cooker works better when I am not home. I'll transfer them into the oven and let them bake uncovered while the fish cakes fry..

Both are quite easy to make, but a bit time consuming, not in the "stay in the kitchen all day" kind of way but in a "start it one day and finish it the next" kind of deal

The house must smell tantalizing!

All I need is some home made bread.

Any volunteers!
