I have only attended one baby shower in my life. It was held in the boardroom at work for a co-worker who was going on maternity leave. It was a fun affair, a few games, lots of cake and good intentions. I also seem to recall attending a few diaper parties where we showed friends how to change a diaper, warm milk and drank ourselves silly.

That is how we are supposed to celebrate the impending arrival of a life.

Let's juxtapose that with a baby shower in Detroit that may have gone tragically wrong leading to the death of a a 9-month-old.

Someone fired 37 bullets at Delric Miller IV's home and police are investigating to determine if the shooting, which killed the infant, was the result of an altercation at a baby shower, the day before.

Miller's grandmother says a fight broke out the day before when there weren't enough seats for everyone at the party. "A woman got mad because she couldn't find a seat, so she started knocking tables down, and it escalated from there," said Cynthia Wilkins.

"My daughter and her friends left the club, but (a group of men and women) followed them to a gas station, and there was a fight with one of the guys who was at the shower with my daughter."

Wilkins believes they returned the next day and fired at the house, reports the Detroit News. "They went to the shower to celebrate life; instead, a life was destroyed

What kind of world do people live in when a fight over a seat at a baby shower triggeres the senseless killing of a 9-month-old boy?

What a world to live in!
