"inefficient and outdated."..that is how Farhad Manjoo of Slate.com describes independent bookstores.  He says Amazon does a much better job at promoting book culture.

Joanne Saul, owner of Type Books in Toronto, disagrees. She believes bookstores are essential community hubs that offer a unique experience to book lovers.

The pair squared off on Q this morning.  Catch the debate at the Q website.

Hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, with his trademark wit and spontaneity, Q covers pop culture and high arts alike with forays into the most provocative and compelling cultural trends.

The fate of independent bookstores....paper books in general...has been the subject of a number of posts here at P&P, what do you think? Are you reading more in digital formats? Have you moved beyond the outdated analog form of book printing? Do you own an e-reader?  Can independent bookstores survive?

Lets have a discussion.
