IGGY BUILDING A CREDIBLE TEAM

Kudos to Michael Ignatieff for showing that he has the right stuff to attract the right people.

Often politicians make the mistake of surrounding themselves with loyalists that do not bring much more than their loyalty to the table. These are often dangerous operators that see no further than protecting the boss at all costs. They eventually end up smothering the leader. A good leader can assemble a balanced team and bring people together.

Ignatieff has been getting criticism for some of his choices. Some are arguing he is too Toronto centered. I like what I am seeing, he has a balanced team of loyalists, dedicated party people, proven communicators, organizers and policy makers. I think it is safe to say he is assembling the first post Martin/Chretien organization that can work together.

Today's story in the Globe and Mail regarding the addition of Kevin Chan who was executive assistant and director to the Clerk of the Privy Council speaks volumes about how Ignatieff is perceived.

It is also a significant blow to the Harper Administration. Chan would have been privy (no pun intended) to a fly-on the wall perspective of how the administration works, its goals and its approaches. He is a recipient of the Public Service Award of Excellence for his work recruiting policy leaders into the government. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of government and will have allies on the inside.

It is a very significant poison pill that will have the control freaks in the Langevin Block going off their collective heads. They are literally cracking up.

The official opposition is beginning to look more like a government in waiting!

As Warren Kinsella says, this thing's a marathon, not a sprint!
