WILLIAMS WINS 2009 TALL TALE CONTEST HANDS DOWN

Move over Hillary Clinton, Julianna Smoot, Robert E. Rubin, Sen. Tom Daschle, Sen. John Kerry and Michelle Obama.....The person who really has the ear of the President elect of the United States is our very own Premier Danny Williams.

Yesterday the Premier claimed in the House of Assembly that Barack Obama was following the lead of this province when it comes to stimulating the economy. The Premier's comments may have been designed for a boisterous partisan crowd in the House of Assembly but the over the top pronouncement has made headlines from St. John's to Vancouver and everywhere in between.

I wonder if some enterprising reporter has contacted the transition team in Chicago to confirm the premier's claims. I imagine it would sound like this:

Reporter: Yes I am calling from St. John's, Newfoundland regarding our premier's suggestion that President Elect Barack Obama is listening to what we're doing here and is borrowing from our fiscal playbook.

Transition Team Member: Sorry, I thought you had a Prime Minister up there. I can tell you that we love Canada, they are our greatest trading and military partner.

Reporter: Yes, yes, but I am referring to Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian province.

Transition Team Member: Great dogs you all have up there. Is a Premier like a Governor or a sheriff or something?

Reporter: It is like the governor of a state, Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the ten provinces of Canada? Danny Williams is the Premier. He is a very wealthy and successful businessman and lawyer, he stared Exxon down over the Hebron Development and won, defeated Stephen Harper in the last federal election, surely you know of him?

Transition Team Members: Okay, Okay. I got you now. I can honestly say that I do not know your governor Williams. First time I have heard of him. Sounds like an ambitious fellow though. We are in the process of hiring perhaps he could download our vetting documents and declare all of his interests and we might be able to arrange some sort of interview for him.
