From "cotte" to iron maiden to Kestos Corset Bra to Warner's cups to today's Wonder bras. The evolution of what we now call a bra has taken many twists, turns, strings and forms.
Burning bras and not wearing a bra have been ways of making a statement. The concept of choosing if, and what kind of bra as opposed to being told you had to wear one for support was a major step forward in human rights.
Bras have become part of pop culture. Look at Klinger from M.A.S.H or the role Victoria Secret models play in fashion.
The latest step in marketing the bra is the marriage of making a statement and support for those heavingly bodies, and it may give you a jolt - say hello to the solar-powered bra. Lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd has created the environmentally friendly, and green colored, "Solar Power Bra".
The company's other green-themed undergarments include a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag and one that featured metal chopsticks to promote the use of reusable chopsticks.
The bra features a solar panel worn around the stomach, which means the panel has to be exposed in order to work. It would generate enough power to operate an I-pod or a cellular phone.
I guess we are heading back to that late 80's-early 90's fashion of wearing our undergarments on the outside. I wonder where the clasp is?
