REPUBLICANS DUST OFF THE RACE ISSUE

Senator Barack Obama does not even have the Democratic nomination and a prelude to the campaign to come is shaping up in Mississippi, where the Republicans have launched a campaign based on race to hold onto a congressional seat.

Voters go to the polls on Tuesday in the mostly white and conservative district and in a campaign that smacks of desperation the Republicans have started to play the old race card. The words liberal and conservative are being used as proxies for black and white.
