FLAHERTY SHOWS NO SYMPATHY FOR ONTARIO

"It's an error, quite frankly, for anyone to suggest that somehow Ontario is shortchanged because it happens to have wealthier taxpayers than other provinces might have,"

Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty told a Economic Club of Toronto luncheon yesterday that Ontario taxpayers have no right to complain they are being shortchanged by the equalization program. He rejected Premier Dalton McGuinty's argument that equalization must be reviewed because it no longer works.

For more on Flaherty's speech read today's article in the Toronto Star.

Flaherty never showed an ounce of sympathy - or empathy - for Ontarians when he was a provincial cabinet minister, either.
